You’re Looking Oh-So-Very Dapper!
Today’s Guest Author is listener Kelli Magdaleno!
On Sunday, November 4th , Disneyland was filled with men, women and children dressed in nostalgic
attire in celebration of Dapper Day. This unofficial event is a fun and stylish way to pay tribute to the
fashions of past decades. A vast contrast to the typical daily attire often seen in the park, Dapper Day
looks are a throwback to how guests would often get all dolled up in their Sunday best for a visit to
Disneyland.
Held twice a year, once in Spring and the other in Fall, Dapper Day is a social event that encourages
people to “step out in style”. No specific time-period is required, and all vintage-inspired looks are
welcomed and encouraged. Mid-century styles tended to be the popular choice of dress this year for
many of the fashionable park visitors.
If you happen to be in the park on Dapper Day but didn’t dress up don’t fret! Disneyland guests do not
need to be in vintage wear to attend but if being in the park does inspire you to spruce up a bit, head
over to Le Bat en Rouge, located at 35 Royal Street in New Orleans Square. Le Bat en Rouge has many
adorable dresses and accessories that are perfect for this event. New this season and on display was a
Beauty and the Beast Mrs. Potts dress along with its coordinating accessories. My favorite accessories
found in the shop were the Mary Poppins carousel horse purse and the It’s a Small World purse. Super
cute and perfect for any day at the park!
Dapper Day tends to bring out a lot of VERY creative people! It is so fun and interesting to see how
people incorporate Disney into various ensembles. I saw many outfits that were a combination of
vintage dresses and Disney bounding. These looks were created by taking elements of costumes worn by
iconic characters and then adding these components into classical attire. By doing so, the results are
beautiful and original pieces of clothing influenced by Disney characters. One such look was cleverly
created by a young lady, McKenna Madison, who portrayed Princess Leia.
For those of you who were unable to make it to the Fall event, fear not! Dapper Day will be returning to
Disneyland Park on Sunday, April 14, 2019. This gives you plenty of time to create your stylish looks.
When designing your dapper getup be creative, have fun and most importantly— be yourself!
See you at the parks!
