A Very Dapper Day Indeed

First, I want to thank all of the listeners that sent in their photos to be included in this blog post. It was lovely to see everyone’s style and creativity shine through while staying at home. It is no secret that Disneyland has been closed for what feels like an eternity and brought an abrupt end to visits and vacations to the Happiest Place on Earth. Sunday, April 19th, was scheduled to be the spring Dapper Day at Disneyland outing.

A little history of Dapper Day for those who are just finding out about it. As explained on dapperday.com, this event was created by Los Angeles designer Justin Jorgensen in 2011 in an attempt to celebrate “fun, refined style from yesterday and today.” Dapper Days are held at Disney parks around the world in the spring and the fall which gives Disney and Dapper fans of all styles the chance to visit a past time of when people used to dress up to visit Disneyland – yes there was a time when ladies wore pantyhose and heels instead of leggings and flip flops and gentlemen wore ties and button-ups instead of shorts and baseball hats.

These events are often well attended and very stylish at Disney parks. Justin J. and other Dapper Day contributors held a live broadcast on Instagram on Dapper Day to talk about the event and the first virtual offering of its history. Justin J. explained that early in its inception the team behind Dapper Day have wanted to find a way to bring the event home to participants in addition to in-park events. With the circumstances of this year, Dapper Day at Home was created and carried out.

Personally, dressing up and doing my hair and makeup was a nice reminder that fun and happiness is in the small things. It was a nice change to get out of my sweatpants and wear a dress.

My inspiration for my outfit was Rapunzel from Tangled. I love how natural and enthusiastic Rapunzel is and braiding my hair is my favorite way to style my hair. Plus, purple is my favorite color so she was a natural choice.

Esther sent in this beautiful photo of her Dory inspired outfit.

“Blue and yellow and the wise wisdom of Dory’s famous saying seemed perfect during all that is going on around us right now. We need to just keep swimming. Thanks for all you do! Carpe Kingdom!”

Katie and Dane were bright and colorful.

This married couple were inspired by the classic pairing of the Dole Whip and the Enchanted Tiki Room.

LeeAnn got creative and used a green screen to show off her Dapper Dan inspired outfit.

“I decided to Dapperbound as a Dapper Dan to honor the live entertainment at Disneyland. Disney performers provide magical experiences to guests of all ages. Unfortunately, sometimes live performers are some of the first to get cut when there are financial issues, so I really wanted to show my support. I also had fun with a green screen.”

Tabitha and Sophie created a full day of dapper and Disneyland magic.

Tabitha and her seven-month old daughter, Sophie, celebrated with a breakfast of River Belle Terrace inspired Mickey Mouse pancakes while music from the Esplanade played. Tabitha and Sophie then “bounded as the Dole Whip stand, and got some great uncrowded castle pictures with her nursery mural. We then loaded in her ‘doom buggy’ for a neighborhood walk, and came home to an afternoon of Dole Whips that did break my blender, but totally worth it.” They ended the day with Blue Bayou inspired food and drinks and a personal viewing of Fantasmic on YouTube.

Tammy and Dave looked very Tiki inspired in their coordinating clothes.

“My inspiration was ‘I want to sew something, but can’t go to the store. Let’s see what I have in the fabric stash…’ Can’t wait to see everyone dressed up!’”

Courtney and Kelly were very posh in their frocks.

“For Dapper Day I (Courtney) went with a casual Cinderella look and Kelly went with a dress inspired by Main Street USA. Happy Dapper Day!”

Natasha hit all the right notes in her haunting backyard photoshoot.

Natasha said she was feeling “haunted” and put together a perfect potion purple look for Dapper Day at Home.

Marie-Claude exuded hope with her Dumbo inspired dress.

“Wishing as Timothy Mouse said: that those things that carry us down (during this quarantine) are gonna lift us up, up, up. Happy Dapper Day!”

Thank you again to everyone that sent in their photos for our first Dapper Day fashion show. If you would like to share your photos with us please tag us on social media! Stay stylish everyone and Carpe Kingdom.
