Splash Mountain- Still Making a Splash With Park-Goers After 30 Years!

Where has the time gone?! It feels like only yesterday that a new and thrilling log flume ride made its debut at Disneyland Resort. On July 17, 2019 Splash Mountain will turn 30 years old! Located in Critter Country and standing at 89 feet tall, Splash Mountain is still one of the most popular attractions in Disneyland- especially on a hot summer day!

Find your “laughing place” and enjoy a few fun facts about Splash Mountain:

  • This attraction can be found at Disneyland, Walt Disney World in Florida, and Tokyo Disney Resort.
  • While Disneyland’s attraction has the smallest drop at 52.5 feet (Tokyo’s boasts the highest at a full 60 feet), it does have the most audio-animatronics- over 100 singing and storytelling critters!
  • The hill upon which you plunge downward 5 stories at 40mph has a name: Chickapin Hill.
  • Ride if you dare- you WILL get wet! 950,000 gallons of water rush through the flumes of Splash Mountain. The front of the log tends to get the most soaked but don’t think you’re in the clear if you sit towards the back- you will still get splashed!
  • The 950,000 gallons of water can be drained within 5 minutes and refilled within 10 minutes.
  • The water for Splash Mountain (and Pirates of the Caribbean) is treated with bromine, not chlorine, which produces a softer less chemical odor.
  • Get that song out of my head! In 1945 the song “Zip A Dee Doo Dah” won an Academy Award for Best Movie Song. It’s a catchy tune that will surely stick in your head upon exiting the ride.
  • Bye-bye Country Bears- Due to low attendance in Bear Country the Country Bears were moved to Disney World. After an epiphany from Tony Baxter, Splash Mountain was created, and Bear Country was re-opened as Critter Country with a highly anticipated log flume ride.
